Tie-Dye disks

We made tie-dye disks today. The kids had a lot of fun.
To make them you poke a hole in the middle of a coffee filter. Then have the kids make a series of lines and dots or anything they want for that matter all around the filter . With another coffee filter rip off a long piece and roll it together to make a wick to stick through the hole in the middle of the colored filter. Next you want to have a cup of water, place the wick in the water and balance the filter on the top of the cup. The wick will draw the water up through the fibers of the filter making it a cool tie-dye effect.

Kiah stuck in the brambles.

Every summer this kid is out in the back trying to pick and eat as many blackberries as humanly possible.

Pendants for Etsy

These are two pendants that I will be listing on my etsy site: naturallyecomemories.etsy.com. The Revolver pendant is made from a 1927 dictionary page, vintage glass glitter, and vintage lace. The Butterfly pendant is made from a found butterfly wing encased in resin.

Lost tooth

Kiah finally lost his other front tooth, we are getting used to his new smile. Chris was the tooth fairy this time and he left him $3.00 and a package of Jum-Blo. Guess this fairy doesn't care if the teeth are blanketed with sugar.

Father's Day

We love to go exploring. So for Father's Day Chris took us to Santa Theresa Regional Park. Even though it is just 10 minutes away we had never been there. We saw a lot of turkeys and deer. We also found the Santa Theresa spring which has a lot of history behind it. The story of how the spring oringinated is pretty interesting. The local Ohlone indians were mysteriously dying and getting sick; possibly from painting their bodies with red cinnabar which contains mercury. After feeling they had failed the Great Spirit Chief Umunhum had his people gather around their meeting place and look to the skies for help. Umunhum shot and arrow with a feather tied to it up into the sky as a last desparate attempt. A woman then appeared in flowing black robes and with her silver cross she touched a rock. Water gushed from the rock and the woman motioned to the Ohlone to bathe and drink from the spring. Soon all their sick were cured. It is sill there now just forming a little pool. It is also supposedly haunted by a ghost of a little girl named Dottie.

For dinner we went to the Jasmine restaurant in Los Gatos. Very good food. But the waitress must have been having a bad day, I couldn't believe it when she grabbed the menu from me, besides that she was just plain rude. Chris has been going there since he was a kid and it has always been good, so we are going to let this time pass.

Corey's Birthday

Saturday was Corey's Birthday. Chris and I made pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw. They were so good. Chris had smoked the pork the day before for 6 hours. Julie and the band played and we even had a surprise visit from a San Jose police officer (one of Mike's friend's). I think Corey was very happy with it all.
